FIGURE 1 - RADIATOR DRAIN HOSE:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Attach a hose (12 mm I.D., 1500 mm long) to the radiator drain outlet (bottom right) and drain coolant into container for reuse (Figure 1).
FIGURE 2 - ARROW - DRAIN VALVE:

NOTE: The drain valve is accessible through the towing eye flap at the right, below the bumper (Figure 2, arrow).
3. Remove air cleaner at three rubber buffers.
FIGURE 3 - 1 TURNBUCKLE ASSEMBLYARROW - HOSE CLAMP:

4. Remove air flow sensor housing as follows:
a. Disconnect fuel supply and return hose from fuel distributor.
WARNING! Seal off these fuel lines to avoid fuel spillage.
b. Disconnect fuel lines (injectors, etc.).
c. Disconnect throttle turnbuckle assembly (1, Figure 3) from air flow sensor housing.
FIGURE 4 - REMOVING CORE PLUG:

d. Loosen the large hose clamp (arrow) from rubber boot below air flow sensor.
5. Remove air flow sensor housing and fuel distributor as a unit.
6. Remove core plug with a 19 mm (3/4") Allenhead driver (Figure 4).
NOTE: The core plug is located approximately in the center on the left side of the engine block (Figure 4).
FIGURE 5 - TIGHTENING BLOCK HEATER WITH SOCKET:

7. Install block heater into engine block with a new aluminum seal ring supplied in kit. Torque to 70 N-m (52 lb. ft.) using a 46 mm (1-13/16") socket. (Figure 5).
FIGURE 6 - ARROW - BLOCK HEATER CABLE:

8. Attach power cable to block heater and route over to left fender skirt and fasten cable with plastic straps to suitable supports and to wire harness next to diagnostic socket (Figure 6).
9. Close radiator drain, check coolant for sufficient antifreeze protection, refill cooling system and. pressure test for leaks.
10. Reinstall air flow sensor housing and check throttle linkages for ease of movement.
11. Reconnect battery cable, run engine with defroster on, check for coolant or fuel leaks. Check for proper heater operation and coolant level.
