A. SRS Test Step #3
During SRS problem diagnosis using the tester (tool no. 126 589 10 21 00), it is necessary to modify test step 3 "isolation resistance . . . push grounding button". If the value obtained with the button depressed is not (infinity) EEE, do not replace the wiring harness as described but go to the next check point (i.e. disconnect 2-pin connector, etc.). The test procedure in the Introduction Manual M.Y.1984, Service Microfiche and test card must be altered according to the attached sheets, otherwise a complete wiring harness may be unnecessarily replaced.
Also, it is worth repeating the information contained in the owners manual that when the SRS light is "on" (after the 10 second start-up test), this indicates a system malfunction and the SRS may not deploy in a severe frontal impact. This information must be brought to the owner's attention should they decide to drive with the SRS light "on" if repair or replacement of parts cannot be performed immediately.
Under no circumstances should the SRS light be rendered inoperative by removing the bulb or covering with tape, etc.
B. Air bag Unit Rattles Over Bumps
Do not replace air bag unit! Refer to Programmed Repair Section of Group 91 Microfiche.
IMPORTANT: Before replacing components, always perform complete test according to the service microfiche.
