Fuel Accumulator: Description and Operation

The fuel pressure accumulator, Fig. 5, performs three functions.
1. It dampens the operating noise of the fuel supply pump.
2. It ensures sufficient output to the injectors for starting, despite the low volume of air, by delaying the rise in pressure within the supply circuit.
3. It maintains pressure in the circuit after shutting off the engine in order to ease hot restarting procedures.
