Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Functional Test

Following all jobs on the brake system during which no direct components of the ABS system were involved, a simple operational checkup is sufficient. This means that with the engine running and the ABS system intact, the warning light in the instrument cluster should go out and no longer light up after exceeding a speed of 5-7 km/h. The warning light staying on indicates that the ECU has found a fault while doing its operational check and further investigation is required.

Such jobs include the exchange or replacement of calipers, brake linings, brake hoses, brake disk, brake booster, brake master cylinder, brake cable controls and components of the parking brake, as well as the two brake lines on the rear axle.

If the work includes the hydraulic unit, the electronic control unit, the speed sensors, the harness, or if units are exchanged, the entire ABS must be checked with an adapter together with a multimeter.
